UK’s 809 NAS is to undertake its first operational deployment in 2025, as announced by MoD in its recent statement. The strike squadron, named “The Immortals,” is an integrated Royal Navy and Royal Air Force unit flying F-35B Lightning, the world’s most sophisticated fighter jet.
Building Strength and Capability.
It will be the latest addition to the 809 NAS, which has experienced a period of development recently. The squadron came to life again in 2033 to be used together with the 617 Squadron by the UK while CVFs serve in the CSG. The STOVL technology has been in development since then. In the last few years, they have perfected their pilot training and implementation into the F-35B platform.
Scheduled for Launch/Deployment: 2025.
In March 2024, the parliamentary hearings cleared the way for the deployment of the mission in the next year: 2025. According to the Earl of Minto representing the Ministry of Defence, he emphasized the fact that the squadron is still developing continuously. He indicated that the 809 NAS might continue to boost its fleet pilots and capabilities during the year 2024 while ensuring they are readily armed and prepared for their first major venture.
CARRIER STRIKE GROUP TAKES SHAPE.
The plan will raise 809 NAS with 617 Squadron on board either HMS Queen Elizabeth or HMS Prince of Wales. Each squadron is expected to contribute approximately 12 F-35Bs together forming an immense aerial pursuit force.
