Joker: Folie à Deux – A New Twist on an Old Tale
Another shake up of the movie world is in store with the arrival of “Joker: Folie à Deux.” The second film, which has long been awaited by fans, features Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga who are both former Oscar winners and it appears to be one of the most exciting releases on next year’s theatre calendars.
This first glimpse provided by Warner Bros occurred during CinemaCon, where “Joker 2” emerged as one of the top titles for exhibitors. This is because it follows a $1 billion grossing hit that won Phoenix an Academy Award.
A Musical Taste
The novelty about “Joker: Folie à Deux” is that it has ventured into musicals surprisingly. However, according to Phillips there are some aspects that are similar between this and the previous movie that also relied heavily on music. ‘I like to say it’s a movie where music is an essential element,’ added Phillips. Arthur originally a character in the original film was musical too.
A Nod to The Past
Phillips also took the opportunity to thank movie theater owners for helping release the first Joker film. Movie theater owners supported the film despite concerns that it could lead to violence, which is why it became popular.
A Dynamic Duo
Phoenix reprises his role as Arthur Fleck in “Joker: Folie à Deux,” while Lady Gaga plays a character inspired by Harley Quinn from the comic book series. The two are notorious for their toxic romantic relationship within the pages of comics.
A Billion Dollar Success
The first picture “Joker” was shown in 2019; it made over $1 billion and became the highest-earning R-rated movie ever. He played an aspiring cartoonist sinking into madness due to mental health issues, transforming himself into a joker character, and at the end of the movie he becomes a folk-hero-like that incites a riot in Gotham.
A Glimpse into the Future
Rumors surrounding the sequel suggest there will be some musical parts which would make it reunite its director Phillips with Gaga who worked together on her music-focused “A Star Is Born” transposition.
