Cobra Kai, the hit sequel series to the Karate Kid films, is gearing up for its epic sixth and final season. Here’s a deep dive into everything we know so far to prepare you for the highly anticipated conclusion!
What Went Down in Season 5?
Season 5 saw Cobra Kai reign supreme after Tory’s All-Valley win. A despondent Daniel disbanded Miyagi-Do, while Johnny sought revenge on the manipulative Terry Silver. Ultimately, Johnny and Chozen reignited Daniel’s fighting spirit, exposing Silver’s bribery scheme and getting him arrested. Meanwhile, the villainous Kreese faked his death and escaped prison, setting the stage for a final showdown.
A Glimpse into Season 6
A full trailer is yet to be released, but a teaser offers a glimpse into the new season. With Cobra Kai out of the picture, our senseis and students grapple with competing in the Sekai Taikai, the global karate championships.
Who’s in Season 6?
Most of the main cast is confirmed to return, including Ralph Macchio (Daniel), William Zabka (Johnny), Courtney Henggeler (Amanda), Xolo Maridueña (Miguel), and Mary Mouser (Samantha). Thomas Ian Griffith’s return as Terry Silver remains uncertain, but a surprise appearance wouldn’t be shocking. New additions include C.S. Lee as Master Kim Sun-Young, the originator of the ruthless Cobra Kai style.
Hilary Swank: A Possible Return?
Fans are eagerly waiting to see if Hilary Swank will reprise her role as Julie Pierce in The Next Karate Kid. While the showrunners are open to her return and that of other Karate Kid veterans, there’s no confirmation yet.
A Supersized Season
Season 6 will be the longest yet, boasting 15 episodes. To accommodate this, the season will be split into three parts of five episodes each, premiering throughout 2024 and 2025.
Filming for the final season is currently underway, with a target release date in the latter half of 2024. The first five episodes will drop on July 18th, followed by the next five on November 28th. We’ll have to wait a bit longer for the final five episodes, which are slated for a 2025 release.
Expanding the Karate Kid Universe
Just like previous seasons, Cobra Kai season 6 is poised to further expand the Karate Kid universe. Showrunners have hinted at introducing new characters and locations, taking viewers to exciting corners of the Miyagiverse.
The Future of Karate Kid
Even with Cobra Kai concluding, the Karate Kid legacy continues. Ralph Macchio is confirmed to reprise his role in a new Karate Kid movie featuring Jackie Chan and a new cast. This upcoming film promises to bring the story to the East Coast and explore themes of mentorship and cultural exchange.
So, buckle up, Cobra Kai fans! The final season promises high-stakes action, epic rivalries, and a fitting conclusion to this beloved karate saga. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the highly anticipated premiere!
